Amaravati Set to Emerge as a Modern Growth Hub in Andhra Pradesh The World Bank has approved an $800 million financial package to support the development of Amaravati, the planned capital city of Andhra Pradesh. The funding represents a major milestone in transforming Amaravati into a world-class, sustainable, and future-ready urban center. Strategically located between Vijayawada and Guntur along India's eastern corridor, Amaravati is expected to become a key metropolitan destination with excellent connectivity and significant economic potential. The investment will be utilized through the Amaravati Integrated Urban Development Program, which focuses on developing modern infrastructure, efficient public services, climate-resilient systems, and sustainable urban planning. The initiative aims to create a city that offers high-quality living standards while supporting long-term economic growth. According to the World Bank, Amaravati has the potential to become a model for India's next generation of smart cities. As India's urban population continues to grow rapidly, well-planned cities like Amaravati are expected to play an important role in driving economic development and improving the quality of urban life. Currently, the Amaravati region is home to nearly 100,000 residents, with projections indicating substantial population growth over the coming decades. The city's master plan has been designed to accommodate approximately 3.5 million people by 2050, ensuring sufficient infrastructure and public amenities for future expansion. The first phase of Amaravati's development is being supported jointly by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). In addition to public funding, the project is expected to attract over $600 million in private investment, further strengthening the city's long-term financial sustainability. With this approval, Amaravati takes another significant step toward becoming one of India's most advanced, sustainable, and economically vibrant urban centers.
